    Contentment = Happiness

    Are you feeling unhappy? Well, just try this simple trick. Think of all those things which you have, and stop being desirous for those things which you don’t have and Happiness shall become your companion.

    Contentment of possessed things is the most expensive jewel a married couple can have. This not only involves stuffs but also the relationships that we are blessed with. Contentment displays the art of patience, and of course Allah is with the patient as stated below.

    O ye who believe! Seek help in steadfastness, and prayer. Lo! Allah is with the steadfast.

    Being greedy can result in an unhappy relationship and less trust among husband and wife. For example a demanding wife can cause an unrest in the mind of the loving husband who tries to take care of every need and demand of her wife. Demanding doesn’t cause unrest but the less satisfaction with the fulfilled demand does.

    It is stated by the Holy Prophet:” Richness does not mean having a great amount of property, but richness is self-contentment”.
    Bukhari, Riqaq 15

    If we think about it deeply. We come to know that a lot of disputes between husband and wife start because of less contentment. Take another example. Husband does not like pepper but the wife adds it to most of the meals. Due to lack of contentment the husband starts feeling angry and this could lead to a very big argument. Although He could just eat it anyway as this food is just going to end. Similarly there are many examples for wives as well.

    Dear fellows, "Contentment" does not mean that we don’t eat what we like and don’t put effort to get a better job, house and car. It just means that we should not be unthankful and complaining about the things that we have. We should observe that everything takes time. Look around yourself the trees, fruits and flowers grow gradually and slowly. A baby turns out to become a big man with the passage of time. The whole universe is expanding at a slow rate. That is the way Allah has ordered everything to be.

    Of course humans make errors. We make lots of them and also see the results out of those mistakes. Contentment is another name for Happiness. May Allah help you and me to practice contentment because that would lead to a happy married life. Ending the article with the Quote of a great philosopher:

    “He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have.”
